Our Story

An historic and iconic large-scale sheep and cattle breeding property located in the Hunterville district, Rangitikei. Now owned by the Otiwhiti Limited Partnership, Otiwhiti has been farmed until recently by Sir Thomas and Lady Duncan Trust for the funding of research and hospitalisation of children with polio.

Charlie and Jo Duncan began the school in 2007 in partnership with Land Based Training, with the intention of offering a practical solution to getting young farmers work-ready and into the Hunterville community. This objective was realised and the Otiwhiti School of Agriculture is now a successful operation that feeds well rounded, qualified young people into the agriculture industry.

Otiwhiti is 16km northwest of Hunterville, 67km from Palmerston North and 60km from Wanganui. Otiwhiti Station is an extensively run sheep and beef operation, partnering with Westoe (near Marton), an intensive finishing block that has a portion of irrigation. The Otiwhiti buildings include the homestead, manager’s residence, cadets quarters, cookhouse, and other residential staff dwellings. Otiwhiti is a small community with a family feel.
