Become a Cadet

Open Day - 7 June 2025

Our annual open day provides those interested in becoming an Otiwhiti Cadet, as well as their families, the opportunity to come and learn about the school and our live-in facilities.

The 2025 Open Day will be held on Saturday 7th June from 9am, and if you are keen to join us, we highly recommend you attend this Open Day.

If you miss our Open Day – please contact us as we can arrange for you to visit Otiwhiti and have a look around, ask questions of our current cadets and meet the Otiwhiti farm team.

We require registrations for our Open Day. If you can register via the link below before the day, it’s greatly appreciated. If not, you can register on the day.

Application Process

Applicants must be between 16 and under 20 years of age and studying in at least their third year of secondary education.

  1. Applications close in July — don’t miss the deadline!

  2. In August/September all applicants will be advised whether or not they have been selected for interview.

  3. If selected, you will be given an interview date & time, where you will be interviewed by the course election committee.

Programme Pre-requisites

  • Students will have to show a keen interest in farming as a career choice.

  • Average to above academic achievement and average to above average behavior

  • If students wish to enter, at Year 12 or above, they must have either passed NCEA Level 2 or may gain entry at the discretion of the course tutor.

  • All students must have NCEA Level 2 Maths and English.

  • (Minimum of 8 credits) or equivalent.

  • Year 13 students are preferred.

  • A selection process is undertaken when applications are received.

  • Minimum restricted license required, preferably able to drive a manual.
